Role Description:

We’re looking for a Staff Product Designer to define the future of mobile-first capture experiences at CoStar Matterport. In this role, you’ll design for iOS and Android apps that connect seamlessly with capture devices and extend into desktop workflows.

Matterport is transforming how people experience and manage properties through immersive 3D digital twins. We are seeking a Staff Designer to lead the design for our proprietary iOS and Android apps, shaping experiences that serve both everyday consumers and expert power users such as architects, facilities managers, and real estate professionals.

While this role is primarily focused on mobile design, there will also be opportunities to influence and design desktop experiences, ensuring consistency and cohesion across platforms. A key focus will be designing for capture integration with Matterport cameras, making it simple and intuitive for users to create high-quality digital twins from any device.

This is a senior hands-on role for a designer with deep mobile expertise who can set the vision, create clarity from complexity, and deliver intuitive, powerful experiences that scale across a diverse customer base.

Responsibilities:

Knowledge & Application

  • Lead design for our mobile platforms, leveraging advanced expertise in mobile UX/UI design patterns, platform guidelines, and Matterport’s product ecosystem.
  • Develop solutions that are both consumer-friendly and robust enough to meet the needs of power users who rely on advanced functionality.
  • Shape the mobile product strategy by applying broad design knowledge, anticipating future needs, and guiding the development of new frameworks, policies, and design standards.
  • Extend design leadership beyond mobile by contributing to select desktop experiences, ensuring platform parity and seamless cross-device workflows.
  • Design and refine workflows that integrate directly with Matterport’s capture hardware, simplifying the end-to-end process of scanning, syncing, and managing 3D digital twins.

Complexity & Problem Solving

  • Solve complex interaction and workflow challenges across mobile, balancing usability for first-time users with efficiency for experts.
  • Address challenges of hardware–software integration, ensuring smooth, reliable capture experiences on mobile devices.
  • Evaluate and adapt design methodologies to address diverse user contexts, from real estate agents preparing listings to architects working with detailed models.
  • Exercise independent judgment in selecting the right design approach, ensuring outcomes align with product and business objectives.

Collaboration & Interaction

  • Partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Research to define and execute mobile-first product strategies.
  • Work with hardware and firmware teams to align mobile design with Matterport’s camera capture ecosystem.
  • Act as a thought leader, influencing stakeholders across Matterport with compelling storytelling, prototypes, and data-driven rationale.
  • Mentor other designers, providing guidance on mobile best practices, interaction patterns, and balancing simplicity with depth.
  • Collaborate with external partners and internal cross-functional leaders to ensure our apps remain best-in-class.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited, not-for-profit University or College in design, HCI, or related field; Master’s degree or PhD a plus (or equivalent experience).
  • A track record of commitment to prior employers.
  • Experience: 8+ years of professional design experience.
  • Advanced experience designing for both consumer-facing and professional/power-user products.
  • Craft: Proven track record of delivering polished, scalable mobile designs that blend platform-native expectations with innovative solutions.
  • Systems Thinking: Ability to see the interrelationships between design systems, product features, capture workflows, and technical constraints, and apply this to create cohesive multi-platform experiences.
  • Collaboration: Strong communication and persuasion skills; experience networking with key contacts outside design and influencing at multiple organizational levels.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • With at least 4+ years focused on iOS and Android mobile app design.
  • Experience working on hardware–software workflows (e.g., cameras, IoT devices, or capture tools).
