GENERAL SUMMARY AND POSITION PURPOSE

The General Maintenance Worker for the Jena Band of Choctaw Indians will perform repairs for assigned equipment and facilities including plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, heating and cooling, and other building systems. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma and HiSET Equivalency.
• Valid driver's license. (Required)
• Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• 1-year work experience in the area of maintenance and/or repair (DESIRED).
• Maintenance knowledge, skills and abilities.
• No felony, theft, stealing, or drug convictions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include , but are not limited to the following :

• Inspects and identifies equipment or machines in need of repair.
• Troubleshoots issues to determine necessary repairs.
• Plans repair work using the building's blueprints or equipment manual as needed.
• Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician. Examples may include repairing drywall, painting, and repairing doors and other building fixtures.
• Performs routine maintenance on building systems.
• Cleans and assists with upkeep of the facilities.
• Orders supplies and materials needed for repairs and maintenance.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Informs visitors by answering or referring inquiries.
• Supports continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
• Practices and engages in safety procedures at all times.

JBCI SPECIFIC

• Must be able to work independently.
• Must be able to manage multiple tasks and meet task deadlines.
• Ability to occasionally travel, work irregular hours, and be on call.
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn Native American History, Heritage, and Customs.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to collaborate and work well with others.
• Exhibit kindness and interact in a respectful manner to Tribal members.

COMPUTER / OFFICE EQUIPMENT SKILLS

• To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to learn and use Google Workspace, Internet, Email, and other software programs as needed.
• Requires the ability to use, operate, and/or handle equipment such as computer, I-Pad, copier, calculator, or telephone.

• The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. JOB LOCATION

• This position shall be located at the Maintenance Department in Jena, Louisiana. This position requires reasonable travel to all JBCI properties, houses, and buildings to provide services for tribal members and the organization.

TRIBAL PREFERENCE POLICY

Members of the Jena Band of Choctaw Tribe shall be given absolute preference with respect to hiring, promotions, training, contracting, and separation from employment. For persons who meet the minimum qualifications, preferential treatment shall be based on the following criteria and shall be given in the following order:

• Enrolled members of the Jena Band of Choctaw Tribe who satisfy the minimum job qualifications.
• Spouses of enrolled members of the Jena Band of Choctaw Tribe who satisfy the minimum job qualifications.
• Enrolled members of other recognized tribes who satisfy the minimum job qualifications.
• Military Veterans.
• All others satisfy the minimum job qualifications.
