Job Description

We’re looking for an EHS Specialist to help support operations running smoothly at a large-scale switchgear manufacturing plant. Think of this role as the go-to person for safety and environmental support on the production floor — working with teams in fabrication, machining, powder coating, assembly, electrical testing, and the warehouse.

Whether you’re just starting out in EHS (with training provided) or already bringing experience from another manufacturing environment, this role is all about building a strong safety culture and making sure we meet both company standards and regulatory requirements.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Walk the floor regularly to run EHS checks across all departments — from machining and coating to assembly and testing.
  • Make sure we’re staying compliant with OSHA, NFPA, EPA, and internal safety standards.
  • Help with machine safety checks and track corrective actions when equipment needs attention.
  • Keep an eye on powder coating operations (ventilation, PPE use, safe handling of materials).
  • Support safe practices during live electrical testing — including barriers, signage, and NFPA 70E protocols.
  • Jump in on incident investigations, help figure out root causes, and track fixes.
  • Observe forklift operations and verify warehouse safety practices are being followed.
  • Maintain safety documentation — training records, inspection logs, permits, and so on.
  • Help lead or coordinate safety training sessions for employees and contractors.
  • Support Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) compliance with audits, training, and program upkeep.
  • Get involved in fall protection programs (training, inspections, and coaching).
  • Assist with emergency drills, readiness checks, and communication with local emergency responders.
  • Provide first-aid or CPR/AED if certified — and coordinate medical response if something happens.
  • Pitch in on environmental programs like waste management, spill prevention, and recycling.
  • Take part in special projects that improve our overall EHS systems and processes.

What You’ll Need

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Flexibility to work 12-hour day shifts (rotating or fixed) / Panama Schedule
  • Solid communication skills — written and verbal.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office or similar).
  • Comfort working in an active manufacturing setting (fabrication areas, paint booths, assembly lines, test bays).
  • Ability to get First Aid/CPR/AED certified within 30 days of starting.

Bonus Points If You Have

  • An associate degree, technical certification, or coursework in occupational safety, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Hands-on EHS experience in manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of machine safety and hazard control methods.
  • Familiarity with powder coating safety.
  • Experience with forklift operations and warehouse safety standards.
  • NFPA 70E low-voltage training or equivalent.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
